Keeping mother and baby safe from the effects of flu

Flu season has begun and pregnant women need to be especially careful to avoid getting the influenza virus, because they are more at risk for flu-related illness and death. This month the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) reminds pregnant women to make a flu shot part of their prenatal care. The flu vaccination is safe for pregnant women, but those who are concerned about possible effects should talk with their obstetrician or other health care provider.
